I’m shooting for more *modern-day* Dickensian. Such as, when Oliver Twist returns for his second bowl of gruel, he’d ask, “Please sir, may I have some more all up in my cakehole?”

I didn’t know it either — turns out his writing made him both rich *and* famous in his lifetime, beginning with “The Pickwick Papers” and heading toward mega-stardom somewhere around “A Christmas Carol.” Which was wonderfully incongruous, given that his wealth and fame gave him the time and platform to champion issues like economic and social injustice.

Which are also prominent themes in my own novel. You know, wherever I could wedge it in around all the dick-speak. . .

Man I love hearing about palm readings and tarot cards and all that jazz. I never knew Dickens became rich while he was still alive. That would be awesome.

I thought you were going to tell your dude, “That’s cool, I’ll have the maid do it. Oh, wait a minute. We have a live-in nanny. We don’t need to have the help call So-and-So after all.”

But riding in a gold-plated mobile hypochondriac unit sounds like more fun to me.
